Does the platform accept you? Yes. Spain does not appear in Kalshi's restricted jurisdictions, nor in Polymarket's.
Does your state let you in? Spain's Ministry of Consumer Affairs opened sanction proceedings against both platforms for operating without the mandatory administrative licence, and ordered a precautionary block. Internet providers apply it, and not all of them do so the same way.
These two answers being opposite is the whole point. Most coverage conflates them.
The DGOJ, Spain's gambling authority, holds that prediction markets constitute games of chance when the wager concerns uncertain future outcomes, and that operating them requires a licence. It also notes that both platforms lack identity verification, controls preventing access by minors, and a connection to the national self-exclusion register.
The order is directed at Spanish internet service providers, not at the platforms. That is why a connection that does not pass through a Spanish carrier may still load the sites: it never crosses the point where the block is applied.
Nor do all Spanish carriers apply it the same way or at the same time. That is why we say "block ordered", not "blocked": the order is on record; whether a given connection loads the site depends on its provider.
No. It is precautionary, in force while the proceedings run. Industry press estimated three to four months from May 2026. As of 6 September 2026 there is no record of a final resolution or of the block being lifted.
